New Years Resolutions And Reaching Your GoalsItâs the start of the New Year and many of the new year resolutions are to lose weight, have more energy, and become healthier. So I hope and pray that I can help guide you on the doâs and donâts. The first tip I want to give you, which I think is the most important tip is to make a commitment to yourself. If itâs to lose weight, become healthier, run a raceâ¦.whatever, the only way you are going to make it happen is if it is a priority in your life. So make a commitment to yourself. To make that commitment more tangible, write it down. Write it down on a piece of paper and place it somewhere you can read it everyday. This helps remind you and gets your subconscious mind to start helping you out. After youâve written it out and looked at it everyday, you have to figure out a plan and set a date for when you will reach your goal. How are you going to make it happen? What steps are you going to have to take? How long will it take? Write down the big picture and than break it down into smaller pieces. For example if you goals is to lose 30 pounds â you need to set a date. I PLAN ON LOSING 30 POUNDS IN FIVE MONTHS. Now, you can set smaller goals such as, I WILL LOSE 6 POUNDS A MONTH. Next you need to write down how you are going to accomplish that. Iâll reach my goal byâ¦.exercising 3-5 times a week. I will eat 3 meals a day. I will not skip meals. I will get the advice of a qualified health professional. I will follow The Five and Two dieting plan. I wonât buy or keep bad or fattening foods in the house. I will educate myself on nutrition and fitness. I will look to find an accountability partner. I will only eat dessert and junk foods on the weekendâ¦NOT at every meal. These are simple things you can write down to encourage your walk. If you take a moment and plan out your future or goals, you can more easily see what steps you need to be taking in order to reach your goals. Iâve always like the saying, âplan the work and work the plan.â Keep in mind when we talk about goals, I am more concerned about the âgrowthâ we evolve through as we strive for our goals. We all need goals, but it is that growth process. Iâve always heard itâs the journey â not the destination that made it all worthwhile. Finally, see yourself as that healthier, thinner more active person. See yourself, visualize yourself as that person you strive to be. Close your eyes and see yourself (visualize) buying new clothes (smaller size), stepping on the scale and it reading what you want it to read, see yourself rewarding yourself. Feel the smile it will bring to your face as you reach that goal. It can be more than losing weight, it can be running a race, being able to walk or dance, whatever it is you want to achieve. Visualization is a powerful tool that helps bring that subconscious mind of ours to start working in our favor. If you havenât tried it beforeâ¦I would encourage you to. Itâs simple, all you do is lie or sit down and close your eyes and visualize yourself in whatever situation you wantâ¦.literally it is daydreaming as an adult. It can take as little as ten seconds or as long as a few minutes visualizing your accomplishments. These simple little tips can be applied to any goal, not just your health related goals. But if your goals are health related I encourage you to listen to our radio show. This will help inform and educate you. Follow many of the tips and suggestions we recommend. Everything we talk about has been tried and proven. Itâs the beginning of the yearâ¦.letâs NOT let another year pass us by wondering why we didnât get this or that to happen in our life.
Cat's And Kat Love WheatgrassThanks Jennifer for sending us these great pictures! This is Tigger in Oakland, Ca. He's 12 years old and has always eaten the grass in the back yard. A few years ago I started growing organic cat nip for him, but he could take it or leave it. He definitely loves the wheatgrass. No matter where I put the wheatgrass by to grow, he'll find it. I just cut from the other side and he gets one end. He doesn't even eat the back yard grass anymore...if he can find the wheatgrass. Thanks and Take Care, Jennifer

Progesterone, A Womanâs Best Friend During PregnancyTips for a Healthy Pregnancy Infertility, miscarriage and C-sections are fast becoming important topics of discussion for anyone wanting to become pregnant. The rate of infertility, miscarriages and C-sections are at an all time high. Add everyday worry and anxiety to the equation and you will easily see how stress can contribute to these problems. Stress interferes with the reproductive process and a major cause for infertility and miscarriages. The reason is simpleâ¦stress depletes progesterone. The word âprogesteroneâ means âfor gestation.â Which means we need this hormone, if we want be become pregnant and stay pregnant. Progesterone nourishes the uterine lining in preparation for the implanted, fertilized egg. It is progesterone that continually feeds and nourishes the uterus during pregnancy. Unfortunately, constant stress causes a decrease in your progesterone levels and is associated with infertility and miscarriages. When you are constantly in that âfight or flightâ mode, your adrenal glands will produce additional cortisol and adrenaline. This is a normal process. The problem is this -- in order to make cortisol, which is a stress hormone, your adrenal glands need progesterone. This causes your progesterone to be used in making stress hormones, as opposed to what it is designed to do, which is to support your pregnancy. This is commonly referred to as the âprogesterone steal.â It makes a lot of sense when you think about it. The body is designed for survival and when you are steadily in the âfight or flightâ mode, it is more important for the body to run away from the threat than it is to have a baby. The constant demand for cortisol is going to reduce your levels of progesterone. Inadequate levels of progesterone strongly interfere with the reproductive process. Additionally, low progesterone is another reason why so many women struggle with PMS, hot flashes, night sweats, etc. Their progesterone is being stolen to make cortisol! This whole âprogesterone stealâ process causes a deficiency and ultimately affects the balance of progesterone to estrogen and testosterone. Supplementing with progesterone (I prefer sublingual progesterone over topical creams) can do wonders for so many women who are struggling with infertility, miscarriages, PMS, hot flashes, night sweats and other hormonal imbalances. Yet I always encourage my patients to address the reason for the lack of progesterone. If it is do to stress, you need to support those exhausted adrenal glands with a good adrenal supplement. If we merely add progesterone, without properly nourishing those depleted adrenal glands, we are always going to have to supplement with progesterone. But if we strengthen our adrenal glands and manage our stress, we wonât be stealing all our progesterone. Most importantly â you can never get your progesterone levels back to normal if your adrenal glands are fatigued and exhausted. Next time we will discuss how to accurately measure your hormone levels and how to support your progesterone. Dr. Len Lopez is a nutrition and fitness expert and author of âTo Burn or Not to Burn, Fat is the Question.â You can learn more about progesterone and how to keep those hormones in balance by listening to his weekly radio show. Diabetes, Wheatgrass And Reduced Sugar LevelsMy name is June Colaudolu, and I was a supplier of organic wheatgrass on the Central Coast NSW Australia, for about three years. Whilst growing and supplying I became curious about the effects that wheatgrass would have on diabetics (as it tastes so sweet) so I asked my daughter's employer who is diabetic (stable control) if she would try it for me so we could see how it affected her levels. She took 30 mls the first day and her levels dropped from 13.5 to 11.5 in half an hour then that night she went home and ate an ice cream (which I do not advocate). To our surprise her levels were down to 9.5 the next morning. So she started on a program of 30 mls daily, her levels stayed at 9.5 till I introduced frozen wheatgrass out of convenience. Her levels dropped to 4.2 on 60mls per day. Her levels have remained the same even though she has stopped taking wheatgrass some years ago.I also have a friend who is a surgeon here in Australia. She is an insulin dependent diabetic (she also took 30mls of wheatgrass daily for one week but it made her sick). Anyway her level prior to taking the juice was 19.5. Her level dropped to 7.2 the next morning (she took frozen wheatgrass from the start) she has taken frozen juice every two months and her level has stayed down to 7.5. I wondering if any one else has done any investigating to the effects of wheatgrass juice on diabetics that may have had the same results that you might know of. I would appricate your letting me know.11 August, 2006Dr. Chrisâ comment:June, I believe everything you have to say about what wheatgrass can do for sugar levels in diabetics, both insulin-dependent and non-insulin dependent. The reason being I have seen similar results in a number of diabetics taking my wheatgrass extract. The first time I observed this was in 1995, and there have been many more since then.Medical research and my own observations suggest that wheatgrass is most likely a powerful stimulator of human growth factors. This is seen in many instances such as rapid skin recovery, wound healing and increased production of blood elements by the bone marrow. There are many similarities with what is happening to your diabetics and the activity of Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1), which influences most, if not all, the bodyâs cells in a positive way. (See external link) Most importantly, IGF-1 has an insulin-like effect on blood sugar. It reduces glucose levels and helps to stabilise them. Also, the Factor has a direct effect on removing excess fat tissue from the body, which is possibly why so many regular wheatgrass drinkers observe weight reduction.Kind regards,Chris Reynolds.
